This 18th century pitcher, glazed on the interior, features four large, vertical lily pads within a double border encasing the body; they and the seven smaller pads around the neck rise from a base of eight stylized, segmented leaves. It is in flawless condition with English registration mark on bottom as shown.
(With its bisque surface and durability, parian ware's popularity lay in its close resemblance to marble.)
Material: biscuit porcelain which was developed in1845 by the Staffordshire pottery manufacturer Mintons, and named after Paros, the Greek island renowned for its fine-textured, white Parian marble, used since antiquity for sculpture.
Size: Height 10 1/2 in., Width 7 1/4 in.
Time Period: Circa 1857
